Art2 Gallery, Singapore

Medium: Oil on canvas

A sixth solo exhibition of 16 paintings was held in Singapore . The series of still life with fruits is continued with other objects that create a foil to the texture and colour of the fruits. The drapery (tablecloth, rag) is explored in several of the fruit paintings, and then discarded for the ubiquitous plastic bag is made the dominant object in the arrangement. In terms of the human body, the figure becomes cropped to focus on parts of the body – the hands and the feet.

Curatorial statement (Art-2 Gallery), Seah Tzi-Yan: “Far from attempting realism, Wong seeks to convey life by capturing and reworking its tactility through a painterly approach, using colour and texture to convey her responses. Her brushstrokes has thus developed to create mass and flesh, going beyond the deep moods and existential portraits that her past works had been known for”.
