Still Lives
Utterly Art Gallery, Singapore
Medium: Oil on canvas
This is the fifth solo exhibition, comprising of 21 oil paintings on canvas. The works are roughly divided into three series: still lifes, portraits (or figures), and interiors. The portrait paintings were produced mainly from sittings and/or sketches and photographs. “The figures have rediscovered their faces in Susie’s current obsession with accurate surface transcriptions, although her broader strokes lead one away from hyperrealistic concerns, and allow instead the acquisition of psychological dimensions in the pathos, gravitas and humanity of her paintings.” Dr Pwee Keng Hock, curator.
Valentine Willie Fine Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur
Medium: Oil on canvas
A fourth solo exhibition of oil paintings (on canvas) from 2001-2003. 24 paintings were shown in three series: portraits, still lifes, and interiors. The portraits series was a continuation of Wong’s interest in the substance of “flesh” from the third solo exhibition, Corporeity. The “flesh” theme is also extended into the still life series of fruits, entitled the Colander series. The interiors, Living Room series, is a manifestation of the interior landscape, continued over from the landscapes of the early 90s.
